Exploring the affordance of concept maps for knowledge work


I'm interested in the role of hierarchy in knowledge representation and its place in concept map theory. My views are published here There is something constraining about a pure hierarchical approach to concept mapping that seems to miss the advantages of spatial reasoningand the recursive nature of real situations.

Concept mapping comes in many forms and shapes, steeped in learning theory and popular self-help e.g. mind maps. McGriff's 2000 article provides a useful overview.
